The Mesa is a historic neighborhood of homes in southwestern Palm Springs, CA. The Mesa offers an eclectic array of architectural homes styles in an awe-inspiring mountainside setting. The Mesa neighborhood has been a favorite of many celebrities who have owned homes there, including Barry Manilow, Suzanne Somers and Henry Mancini.
The Mesa community was established in the early 1920’s by Edmond Fulford, a successful Los Angeles businessman. Mr. Fulford had a vision of building a unique community in a secluded Palm Springs location. He established the Palm Canyon Mesa on the lowest slopes of the San Jacinto Mountains in an area that provided neighborhood homes protection from the desert winds. Mr. Fulford planned to create an exclusive gated community that was entered through a common main entrance. His plan was never realized as Mr. Fulford died in 1936. The original gatehouse however, one remaining remnant, still stands between South Palm Canyon and Mesa Drive on El Portal and is now considered an iconic representation of The Mesa neighborhood.
After Mr. Fulford’s death, other visionary developers took over the quest and over time created today’s unique and eclectic collection of architectural styles that blend into an incredibly beautiful Palm Springs, CA natural environment.
